The annual class dinner, rescheduled due to the February snow storms, finally took place on Saturday the 21st April 2018. Thank you to all who attended.
We filled the dining room at the Royal Irish Yacht Club, venue for this Autumn’s European Championships , and enjoyed the fabulous facilities provided by the club.
The Commodores of DBSC (Chris Moore) and RIYC (Joe Costello) were in attendance. Gordon Davies and Ailbe Millerick, the international jury members for the European Championships sampled the atmosphere in anticipation of the main event this year.
Congratulations to the following prize winners:
Mephisto Cup (for the most enthusiastic newcomers to the class) Binn Edair Racing (Diana Kissane, Sam Hunt, Cillian Dickson, Gordon Sterling)
SINBIN Trophy (for contribution to the class from persons outside of the class) Eddie Totterdell – DBSC Pro
Aphrodite Cup – ((Presidents Choice) for winning the Corinthian World Championships at the Worlds @ Cowes 2017) SINBIN – Michael O’Connor, Davy Taylor and Ed Cooke
Elmo Memorial Cup ((formerly the Poseidon Cup) for the best overall result at all the regional events) Alert Packaging – Justin Burke, Henrik Olerud et al
Thank you to John Malone who gave an illuminating talk on Team Irelands’ exploits at the World Championships in Tasmania in January 2018, including a video presentation of the challenging conditions encountered down-under.
The class was also delighted to acknowledge the special achievement of the SB20 sailor, Enda O’Coineen, who completed his circumnavigation of the globe. Enda stated that lessons learned sailing his SB20 were invaluable in the southern ocean, that an open 60 was “just like a big SB20” , and that he looked forward to the season ahead.
