The Provident CRM SB20 World Championships 2022 were hosted by SB20 Ireland and the Royal Irish Yacht Club in fantastic sailing conditions, which tested the skill and endurance of all competitors.

With gusts of 30+ knots in the early part of the week, the sailors and their boats were well tested. Check out the action photos here

Moderated wind for the second part was much welcomed as excessive wind on the first day led to racing being cancelled, but a 4 race day on Thursday brought the race schedule back on track.

A full social programme included a trad evening with ‘Ceili Cottage’ accompanied by Sailors Home Irish Whiskey  to welcome competitors ashore on Tuesday evening, and ‘The Ballymahon Boardriding Cowboy Kegband’  with pizza and beer on Thursday evening. While the prize-giving party on Friday night was a great celebration of a fantastic week. Fantastic trophies by Galway Sculptor Mike Weerakoon and prizes by sponsors Dubarry and Sportsboat World were proudly presented to the deserved winners.

Hailed as the new gold standard in race event management, competitors from all corners of the globe were effusive in their praise for RIYC onshore logistics and PRO David Lovegrove and his team afloat.

Congratulations to all and especially the 2022 World Champions, Portuguese team ‘AP Hotels & Resorts’ (Jose Paulo Ramada, Artem Basalkin, Goncalo Lopes & Carlota Gala) and top Irish boat ‘Ted’ sailed by Michael O’Connor with Davy Taylor and Ed Cooke.
